During his undergraduate days, Viran Corea became a professional Radio Presenter and Master of Ceremonies and acted in several drama productions. He was also a member of the all-male choral group ‘The Revelations’. He worked part-time at the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation as a Programme Presenter and News Reader (which he remains to-date), and also for a while at Sri Lanka’s first private Radio Station (FM-99).

Viran received his secondary education at S. Thomas’ Preparatory School, Kollupitiya and S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia and was a prefect at both schools. He was awarded the Best All Round Student in the A/Level Arts Form and later a Mahapola (Merit) Scholarship based on his all-island ranking at the G.C.E. A/Level Examination.
