GEORGE FRANCIS HERBERT ATURUPANE (husband of Chrystabelle Aturupane) was born at Wanduragala in the Kurunegala District on the 29th of January 1929. His parents were George Basil Aturupane and Merlin Illangatilleke of `Streamlands’, Kegalle. He had two sisters, Grace and Sita and two brothers, Lakshman and Maitri.
Following his education at Trinity College, Kandy and S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia, he attended the University of Ceylon (where he read for the LL.B Degree) and the Law College and qualified as a lawyer. Working for a period in the Attorney General’s Department as a Crown Counsel, he was appointed a Judge and served in Colombo, Mallakam, Kuliyapitiya, Mount Lavinia, Kandy, Monaragala, Avissawela and Badulla, earning a reputation of being of the highest integrity and principles and a kind, courteous and upright gentleman par excellence. He was a keen Bridge player and a chess player.
He married Christabelle Euphalia Corea at St. Paul’s Church, Milagiriya in Colombo.
Their three children are Harsha, Harinlal and Chonira. He passed away on the 18th of September 1981.
