CHRYSTABELLE EUPHELIA ATURUPANE was born on the 5th of March 1935, to Ashley Winfield Corea and his wife, Ena Merlin Corea. She has five sisters (Sabrina, Roxina, Brenda, Nirmali and Manorani) and two brothers (Ariya and Jeyranjan/Ranjit). She was educated at the Sacred Heart Convent, Chilaw. She was a member of the church choir and also played the organ at St. James' Church, Chilaw. She had also played the organ at the churches in Avissawela and Dehiwela. She also pays the pianoforte and the piano-accordion.
Chrystabelle married George Francis Herbert Aturupane of Kegalle, at St. Paul’s Church, Milagiriya in Colombo. Her husband attended S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia and was a graduate of the University of Ceylon. He was a lawyer and judge by profession. She has three children, Harsha, Harinlal and Chonira. An artist, she has participated in exhibitions at the Lionel Wendt Gallery in Colombo. A writer and poet, she has published articles and poetry.
